Ant problem in the home.
I have found that ants will not cross a chalk line drawn on any surface. Of course if you live in a rainy area where ants are a problem, you must re-draw the chalk lines each time it rains. It is cost efficient compared to buying something from the shops also it really works to keep ants away from your home.

A tip I would like to share with you is one I find very useful. After cooking (which we do almost daily) and in this cold weather, once you switch on the heating, in order to get rid of onion, masala etc odours, what one can do is switch on the heating.Take some cotton wool and put some drops of lavender or rose or geranium (basically any essential oil that appeals to you) and put it behind the radiator. As the radiator warms up this enticing fresh scent permeates the air. Really helps with reducing the strong aromas of cooking - inshallah.

To keep brushed steel appliances clean and shiny and fingerprint free, clean with a little baby oil. This is especially good for stainless steel cookers and fridges and kettles, toasters etc.

To place a metal spoon in a glass bowl before you pour anything hot into it, too prevent the bowl from cracking. And the slightly quirky tip I have is for freshening a Smokey atmosphere. You have to wave a damp towel around the room.

If you burn yourself while working in the kitchen, you could cut up a potato and gently rub it on the burn. It can take your burn away and leave no burning marks.

To clean spills immediately, you can apply soda water with a damp sponge and rub it. The stains will go away.

Sister Norshin Zamir from Birmingham

If you find removing sticky plasters from your skin painful, first rub baby oil over the plaster. You should find it easier to remove, inshallah!

Try cleaning the windows or mirrors with scrunched-up newspaper and then damp it with some white vinegar and water. It cleans perfectly, without any marks.

Sister Naeema from London.

Instead of rubbing the cleaning solution off windows or mirrors with a tissue or cloth, use scrunched up newspaper to achieve a polished and smear free look.

Cleaning the bathroom or kitchen taps "use vinegar on your taps!” this is a very quick and easy way to make your taps shine like new, but don't forget to wash off the vinegar.

Sister Asfia Waheed from Wolverhampton

I like all my house to be sparkling and one day whilst cleaning my dressing table I spilled a bottle of baby oil on it. I cleaned it with some kitchen paper and it really made it shine - so much that my husband commented and said that 'it looked like I had put extra effort in cleaning that day!!!'

So my tip is 2 - 3 drops of baby oil and plenty of elbow work really makes furniture & equipment really shine. It is effective and it doesn’t even attract any further dust. Especially brilliant on cookers, fridges and also worktops.

Nail Polish Remover- for carpets, curtains and walls, put some nail polish remover on a cotton ball or cloth and dab or rub onto the stain, and leave it on for 5mins, and you would have a really good result.

Corn flour- get some corn flour and water mix it and spread it on to your window, after doing that wipe it with a cloth. You will see how clean your windows are now than before.

Cornstarch- if you have any stains on your carpet, Mix milk with cornstarch to make a paste. Apply the paste to the stain and allow it to dry on the carpet for a few hours, then brush off the dried residue and vacuum it up.

Milk- get a little cloth dipped into warm water and rinse, then dab on to stain, removing most of it. Then apply milk onto the stain on carpet, and get a little brush like a toothbrush, and brush out the stain. After doing that get another clothed dipped into warm water and rinsed, and then just dap on to remove the milk.

A tip for all those girls out there who occasionally lack the oomph to open screw-top water/juice bottles but are too proud to ask for help... If you are at home, a rubber glove or bottle gripper will give you the power you need to get into the stickier ones. However, these are usually in short supply at work in the office, so carefully wind a rubber band snugly around the lid and try again.

To remove bleach smell from hands (and that slimy feeling) pour a little vinegar or lemon juice over your hands then rinse. (Bleach is alkaline; vinegar and lemon are acid, so they cancel each other out and balance the pH of your skin.)

Keep your socks together in the wash and dry process. Get some safety pins and keep them by the washing machine for your socks .Pin the toes of the socks together so you save time matching them up after the laundry process.

Cleaning difficult areas. Use a Crest Spin Brush battery toothbrush and spray cleaner or powdered cleanser for easy cleaning of those hard to get to places: baseboard corners, around sink faucets, tile grout, corners of wood moldings around windows, around shower doors, etc.
